Casting on: 109 sts for reversible beanie with Vardhman Woolista Merino Wool Yarn/3.25 mm straight needle.
Finished Size & Fit: The finished unisex simple beanie measures approximately 9.5 inches in total length: 3.5-inch ribbed brim & 5.5-inch main body and crown. It comfortably fits head circumferences of 22–23 inches or 23–24 inches, one size fits most adults perfectly.
Skill Level: Intermediate/Beginner.
Pattern Language: English.
Techniques Used: Cast on 109 stitches to begin. Keep working the knit-purl rib pattern for the brim until it reaches your desired lengthOnce the brim is done, switch to the main body: work in garter stitch until the piece measures the desired length. Shape the crown, cut the yarn, and neatly sew the edges together to finish.
Unisex Beanie Brim Pattern

After casting on the stitches, we’ll start making the brim by knitting 2 stitches and purling 1 stitch repeatedly. In this beanie, the brim is kept slightly longer than usual because it is an important part of the design.
Row 1: P1, * K2, P1 * repeat from * to *
Row 2: P1, * P2, K1 * repeat from * to * …………….. last 3 sts P3
Repeat these 2 rows until the brim measures 3.5 inches. I have already knitted 30 rows.

Crown Shaping for Unisex Beanie

Right Side: P2tog, P2tog, P2tog …………………… last sts P1
Now, 55 stitches remain.
Wrong Side: Purl all sts
Right Side: P2tog, P2tog, P2tog ……………………… last sts P1
Now, 28 stitches remain.
Wrong Side: Purl all sts
Right Side: P2tog, P2tog, P2tog ………….. last sts P1
Now, 14 stitches remain.
Wrong Side: Purl all sts
Now we’re at the final step — only 14 stitches are left. Thread all these stitches onto a sewing needle (or tapestry needle) using the yarn tail.

Gently pull the yarn tight so the top closes completely and forms a small gather. Secure it firmly with a strong knot so it never comes undone. Next, sew up the side seam. Use mattress stitch or a simple back stitch for a neat, invisible finish.
That’s it! Your simple (knit & purl stitches) unisex beanie is now completely ready to wear. You can keep this cozy hat for yourself or give it as a sweet handmade gift — it looks beautiful and knits up so quickly!
